Turning Toward the East Coast of Corsica
Sixth in a series about our travels in Sardinia and Corsica
We were up and out by 9 AM on what was a Thursday morning. As with each day, we planned a coffee break stop at some interesting location. This day it would be in Corte. The road east took us there fairly quickly, but a mountain road awaited.
The coffee break in the little town held a surprise, the home of Napoleon’s parents!
After the break, it was into the mountain pass of Col de Bavella…
Diane shot some great video from our Porsche Turbo S. This was one very powerful car!
The views are stunning!
Once through the mountains, we headed south and east to Porto-Vecchio and our hotel, Casadelmar, where we would spend two nights.
Again, the Porsche Experience team had delivered an outstanding day of driving to a spectacular destination and dinner at a 2 Michelin-starred restaurant at the hotel.
First, it’s always nice when you can find room for your cars….
Then, the views across the water to Porto-Vecchio and all around the hotel were spectacular.
With two nights at this wonderful location, the second day allowed some to stay and enjoy the hotel while others of us went off on a drive through the hills.
I elected to join those who went driving and I was behind our guide, Ivo. It was, shall I say, a learning experience. “Just stay on my line” was a phrase I heard only once when I realized I was going to up my driving game considerably!
We had great fun and along the way found a knife maker in a village. Turns out, making knives is a very big thing on Corsica….and, the process of making these knives has not changed much from generation to generation.
Of course, I now own one of these fine knives!
Some in our group elected to head to a beach club by boat while others (including us) relaxed around the pool.
Dinner the second night was open, so we headed into the town to walk and found a wonderful local restaurant, Nathalie’s, to dine alone for the evening. It was a real treat, and we even met and visited with Nathalie about the restaurant.
This was a wonderful last night on Corsica. After a good night’s rest it was back to the ferry headed for Sardinia.
The series will continue….
I feel like I was there! Marvelous trip. My father had Porsches, and I went with M&D on a Spring college trip to New England in the back seat (!) of his Porsche, for about 6 days. Memorable!
