The Spanish Steps / Rome / Built between 1723 and 1726
So, I had an epiphany recently. It came after our trip last month to Italy. And, it might also be related to watching the most recent season of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman who, for 20 years, have ridden motorcycles together and documented their extraordinary travels in films. In a recent interview about their travel together, Charley Boorman said simply he has always had a wanderlust.
It struck me that this was true for me as well. My working years always involved considerable travel which I never tired of I must confess. Between government employment, corporate employment, consulting and running associations, I’ve had the good fortune to travel to well over 70 countries and to every state in the nation, most of them multiple times.
Now, Diane and I enjoy moving about the country and our foreign trips tremendously.
Then there are the conveyances. I thought back to multiple aircraft, multiple motorcycles, multiple boats and, of course, multiple cars and even two campers.
I think I qualify for wanderlust status!
Recently, I returned to a conveyance that I enjoyed as a kid and again for almost 15 years after leaving government, a motorcycle. Why, you might ask. Well, mostly because it, like flying an airplane, takes your mind and focuses it on the task at hand where mistakes are not an option. The simple act of riding and enjoying a motorcycle trip takes away the worry and concerns about events of the day, of which there are way too many.
So, beyond this revelation, the point of sharing this is that I want to increase the number of stories about travel, or about just wandering whether near or far.
There were so many thoughtful comments and emails about the series of posts from our Italy trip, and it got me thinking that an occasional post about something just purely enjoyable might be welcomed.
The section is called Wanderlust and my plan is to post something on Wednesdays. We’ll see how it goes. I hope you enjoy the wandering. However, if you look for posts from DECADE SEVEN that are not about wanderlust, feel free to turn off the “Wanderlust Section” as you can manage your personal preferences HERE.
On the other hand, I hope some of you will share your stories about just where you escape from the craziness and relax. If you are like me, getting out to interesting places and meeting interesting people is a high form of promoting good mental health!
Keep an eye out for the wanderlust series on Wednesdays!
And, as for wandering, after acquiring a BMW 1250 RT-P recently, one of my first stops was to the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, a regular source of enjoyment!

faster than the mosquitos!
I'm looking forward to Wednesdays! Congratulations on your newest vehicle. Feel the breeze!
