Weekend Update
Provided to supporting subscribers....thank you!
Thought I’d share a range of items this week.
Of course there was a good deal to talk about…and talk we did. But, there was time found for a fascinating evening with author Melanie Kaplan who, with her beagle, spent four years researching how animals have been used in testing. She also reports on how technology as well as growing opposition is changing the world of lab testing with animals. The evening in the Avalon’s Stoltz Listening Room was really interesting!
Enjoy!
The week’s posts…
One last post today….
In so many ways this multi newsletter publishing experience began for me and has grown because of the remarkable work of Dave Wheelan and Spy Community Media. All of us should be grateful that in an era where local media is disappearing, the Spy is expanding and innovating.
With a new platform and approach in Cambridge and very talented writers, the Cambridge Spy has doubled its subscribers and followers. A wonderful team in Chestertown is working every day to develop the stories for that historic community. The Talbot Spy remains the largest and the Centreville Spy is the newest, both dedicated as are the others to sharing the multitude of stories about people, organizations and the culture of the Eastern Shore. Also added is the Spy Journal as a newsletter using an innovative platform to reach even broader audiences without a geographic reference.
And, as you can see in this week’s offerings above, we are all in a collaboration where stories are shared and passed among the various online/email newsletters.
Now, it’s the time of year when Spy Community Media reaches out for support; and so, I conclude with a link to a post that explains how all this is made possible by readers like you and organizations in the community willing to be supportive.
If you have already found a way to support the Spy, thank you. All of us are grateful. If you are considering whether or not to lend a hand, open the post below and let Dave tell you more about what he’s up to. Above all, thanks for your interest, your feedback and for following those of us who create content throughout the week.
Have a great weekend!

I just loved that conversation with the author of Lab Dog (I thought it was going to be about Labrador Retrievers!). Can't wait to get the book.
